Testing the Porsche Macan with a 4-cylinder engine: Taxi edition

The most affordable crossover Porsche got a four-cylinder engine. Is it enough to not discredit the glorious name, or was it worth calling the modification Taxi edition?

Never such was not – and here again: Porsche and four cylinders! Such motors were found on models from Zuffenhausen, and not only on those that were initially positioned as budgetary. For example, in parallel with the novelty of the mid-60’s – the 911 coupe of the first generation with a six-cylinder 2.0-liter Opposite – they were selling a simplified version of the 912 with a four-cylinder 1.6 liter engine. And the demand was: in the period from 1965 to 1969, buyers found more than 32 thousand “nine hundred and twelve”!

TopCar completed work on Porsche Macan

True, over the past twenty years, fans of Porsche had forgotten about the “quartet” – on the coupe and convertibles set 6-cylinder opposition, for crossovers and representative hatchbacks – V6 or V8. The company’s most affordable car parquet until recently was the 340-strong Macan S, and in 2014, at the start of sales for it, they asked for only 2.5 million rubles in the database. Times are changing, and now less than from 4.4 million to it not to approach. Forcing up to 360 forces Macan GTS will have to give away almost 5 million, and for Macan Turbo – more than six!

Judging the duel of the crossovers BMW X4 and Porsche Macan

Against this background, the newfound Macan (without any additional letters) is a low cost version. He has two cylinders less than his older brothers: the 2.0-liter turbocharger EA888 is known for the Audi Q5 – and many Volkswagen models, including the Golf GTI. On Porsche this engine develops indigestible from the point of view of our taxes 252 hp, but, I want to believe, this omission will be corrected with time. As it happened with the diesel Makan S – then, specifically for the Russian market, the engine was deforested from 258 to 245 horses.

Despite the fact that “simply” Makan is not the weakest in the line, according to the passport data, he is the slowest. Macan S Diesel bullets up to hundreds in 6.4 seconds (with the Sport Chrono package – and in just 6.2 seconds), and the petrol two-liter version spends on it an endless 6.7 seconds – or 0.2 less if there is a sports package. True, comparing the price tags, I still choose a gasoline Macan for 3.7 million rubles. The diesel will cost half a million more.
