Test drive new Infinifi QX30: a new old friend

Infiniti well equipped with crossover: there is a hefty QX80, a large QX70, as well as standard QX60 and QX50. And there was one more – a compact QX30. Where did it come from? How’s it going? What are the prices? Stop-stop, all in order.

Where did it come from?

The base for the Infiniti QX30 is the hatchback Q30. Actually, he was increased by a clearance of three centimeters (to more or less typical for crossovers 202 mm), slightly changed the exterior (other bumpers, thresholds and expander arches) and eventually got a new car – rival crossover Mercedes-Benz GLA. By the way, if anyone does not know, then Infiniti is friends with Mercedes-Benz, so the Q30 and QX30 are built on the “Mersedes” modular platform MFA. It also forms the basis of the A-class hatchback and the GLA crossover. By the way, it was from the last QX30 borrowed the concept, stuffing and power structure of the body.

But do not think that the whole topic with cloning is bad. On the contrary, it is very good, because Infiniti has a 100% thought-out and proven product wrapped in a corporate identity.

Is it possible to learn more about technology?

Simply can not imagine: the Infiniti QX30 put a “Mercedes” 211-strong two-liter “four”, working with a seven-stage robot and all-wheel drive based on a multi-plate clutch. There are no other options. And, in my opinion, this is the golden mean for cars of this class. In fact, this bundle can please a rather brisk acceleration (7.3 to “hundred”) with a good “turbo-catch” from the very bottom. A “wet” robot in general can be reproached only for a certain slowness with sudden acceleration.

And how is it going?

It so happened that on QX30 we drove a whole trip of over four thousand kilometers. Therefore, to test the crossover was fortunate in a variety of conditions: in the city, on flat roads, and on a primer. I will say that in general, none of the passengers complained of discomfort. Well, maybe sometimes it was a little shaking on the bumps. But this is most likely due to the fact that the big 18-inch wheels played their part, which, by the way, did not strain their rustling rumble. Either the soundproofing is good, or it really needs to be given credit to the active noise cancellation system.

And the management of the Infiniti QX30 is not bad. You can control the crossover with at least a little finger: at any speed, a good feedback is felt, and reactions to steering are always predictable. As they say, made in Germany. But the suspension is set slightly softer (there are other springs and shock absorbers than the Mercedes-Benz GLA, but the car is still dense on the move and does not bother swinging or indecent rolls.

And the prices? What are the prices?

The price for the starting Infiniti QX30 is 2 030 000 rubles (if such a car can be ordered at all without “extra”). This is less than asking for Mercedes-Benz GLA, and slightly more than the cost of the same BMW and Audi Q3. But there is a reason to overpay for that. Suppose that the QX30 in the basic configuration does not have a leather interior and starts the engine with a button, but there is a four-wheel drive, LED lights, dual-zone climate control, parktronics, roof rails and 18-inch wheels.

So the Infiniti QX30 gloriously squeezed in between the competitors and feels good. Moreover, in my opinion, none of the Germans can boast such an extravagant appearance.
