All of them, of course, they cope with their tasks, build quality, but only transport companies, operates and maintains this technique was not easy: buses are heterogeneous, and the Germans, accustomed to order, just sometimes overheated brains.
And then Verband? Ffentlicher Verkehrsbetriebe (I will not even try to write a transcription, but in Russian it is “Association of Public Transport Company”) has decided to put an end to the bus sloppiness by entering a single standard type of bus. From now on, all German bus should have the same passenger lounges, chairs and windows. The maximum had to be similar, and the driver’s seat.
Armed with the new standards, the experience and the desire to earn, Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe MAN and set about designing a new standard bus together. It would seem, and here this is the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe? Despite the fact that he was the first carrier to receive in using new bus MAN SD 200 Gaubschat (SD73) in 1974, a year after the first screening of the bus at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
As the name implies, a body engaged in firm Gaubschat, as the chassis of the MAN used products. Such buses have been built only two, and it is with them begins the era of double-decker MAN SD200. SD means Standart Doppeldeckerbus, which translates as “the standard double-decker bus.”
Almost at the same time, the construction of bodies engaged in another company – B ssing?. The boys tensed and did as much as three buses. The main supplier of the bodies became Waggon Union GmbH, who has made most of the buses – more than seven hundred pieces. They worked from 1974 until the last year, MAN SD200 production – by 1985. And our present bus just this manufacturer and of the same issue last year. As he was in St. Petersburg? Oh, that’s the whole story!
Unusual person – an unusual bus
I have never seen any of the normal creative person. All of them are a little bit of crazy that is. However, some – is absolutely intolerable, and some, on the contrary, attract. I was very fortunate that the current owner of the bus, Vladimir Nikiforov, belongs to the second type of creative people.
Even despite the fact that he is an artist and is engaged in variety of crafts, the man he is absolutely adequate, moderately bearded and cheerful. Actually, however, and he needed a bus. Vladimir – the head of a network of creative studios MASTERKLASS. The studio is not only children but also adults. And both of them are sometimes inconvenient to get to it, wherever it is located. And then came the idea to make a mobile meeting place. The idea, in general, is not new: such a studio on wheels are in Moscow. Why not do the same, and in St. Petersburg? Vladimir specifically for this trained as a category D and began to search for a suitable vehicle.
Soon it became clear that an ordinary bus will not work: given that there will have to not only ride, but also the work place is not enough. And then Vladimir began searching for double-decker bus. The first found a fast, in St. Petersburg. But it was partially demolished, dismantled, and the price he asked for a high. Having estimated how many more will have to invest in the purchase, from the acquisition had to be abandoned. The same MAN managed to find in Barnaul, where he worked on a regular city routes. Solving the issue of money, Vladimir flew in Barnaul.
We met him so well, that even two days had a bus maintenance: replace the engine oil, proshpritsevali pendants, pins and replaced the liquid in automatic transmission.
Now imagine the complexity of the situation, from Barnaul to St. Petersburg about 4500 kilometers, the category D is, but no buses driving practices (as well as a good knowledge of technology). I had to go to one of thirty bus, occasionally getting in a snowstorm, and rain … And up to this point the bus is not less than a year just stood there and did not go anywhere at all. Not everyone would dare to be honest. And Vladimir went.
“Okvadrachennaya” rubber time did not allow to go faster of 40-45 km / h, had to move out regularly on the sidelines, to skip back kopivshiysya transport. Between Novosibirsk and Omsk flashed preheater, then went into emergency mode box, and the speed dropped to 20 km / h. In Omsk, the box could be repaired in a couple of hours, but in Tyumen had to stand again: blizzard raged with wet snow, and it was almost impossible to ride. On the highway Perm-Izhevsk revealed a tendency to smoke MAN brake pads, but it was a trifle.

Four meters above the ground

Behind the wheel of the bus

Bus Conversion is carried out continuously. Something has been done, but there is still a lot of work.
