The seventh chapter: the world premiere of the new BMW 5 Series

The seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series is created on the new CLAR platform, which debuted on the flagship "Seven." Coupled with measures to reduce the weight of the complex of BMW Efficient Light Weight, which includes, above all, the use of new materials, the mass of news about a quintal less than the previous generation. Aluminum-magnesium-steel diet does not impact negatively on the strength and stiffness of the body torsion, on the contrary, these options have been improved.

Now detail: in the roof structure, the side frames and the rear uses high-strength steel; made of aluminum hood, trunk door (for the first time entirely of "winged" metal), motor mount, the rear spars, the roof and doors; Magnesium has been applied in the manufacture of the front bracket. And a single word about the doors – they are made in the form of an aluminum monocoque construction, the weight of one with hinges and stop – just six kilograms.

Overall length of the new BMW 5 Series is 36 mm longer than its predecessor – 4935 mm, width increased by only 6 mm – up to 1868 mm, and height – 2 mm to 1466 mm. The size of the wheelbase of 2 975 mm, ie the increase is 7 mm. trunk volume has increased by 10 liters, that is, is 530 liters.

"In the field of dynamics and profitability of the new BMW 5 Series is not only superior to its predecessors, but at the same time takes the lead among the competitors," – say in the company. By the time the market (11 February 2017) to buyers of two petrol and two diesel engines will be offered.

New gasoline row "quartet" on the BMW 530i replaces the previous engine fitted to BMW 528i. Maximum power turbo increased to 252 hp (+ 7 hp), a peak torque of 350 Nm. Claimed fuel consumption – 5.4 liters. Acceleration to 100 km / h – 6.2 seconds.

Three-liter six-cylinder engine in the BMW 540i produces 340 hp (+ 34 hp) and 450 Nm (+50 Nm) of torque. Fuel consumption in rear-wheel drive version – 6.5-liter, all-wheel drive BMW 540i xDrive – 6.7 liters, acceleration to "hundreds" respectively – 5.1 and 4.8 seconds.

Both petrol engines as standard will be available only with eight-manual Steptronic.

The BMW 5 Series engine encapsulation technology used and SYNTAK box (SynergieThermoakustik-Kapsel). This helps to reduce noise and retain heat units, which leads to a reduction in fuel consumption

Diesel 190-strong "quartet" on the BMW 520d can be equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and an optional "Steptronic". Fuel consumption depending on the chosen gearbox differs marginally from the ITUC on the combined cycle sedan "eat" 4.2-4.5 liters, with the "automatic" – 4.1-4.5 liters. All-wheel drive modification BMW 520d xDrive comes only with manual Steptronic and requires 4.5-4.9 liters.

In March 2017 there will be the completion of the motor scale at the expense of diesel BMW 520d EfficientDynamics Edition a rate of 3.9 liters, "charged» BMW M550i xDrive with the "eight" volume of 4.4 liters for 462 hp and acceleration to 100 km / h in four seconds; as the market will 252-horsepower hybrid BMW 530e iPerformance with electric range of 45 kilometers and an average rate of about two liters.
