How much is a budget car in Germany? What does the buyer get for this money? Do these models have chances in Russia? And in general, and where is AvtoVAZ?
In our last compilation, we talked about the cheapest cars on the US market, and this time we suggest you look into the world of “budget” car market in Germany. If in America the “accessibility threshold” ends at around $ 17,000, the FRG in this regard differs both from Russia and the United States. At least, in the TOP-10 most affordable cars, represented in Germany, include cars, which in the basic version cost less than 10 000 euros.
As a rule, budget cars here belong to the ultra-compact class “A”, and they differ with rather modest equipment. But do not jump to conclusions! First, for the amount of less than 10,000 euros, the Germans are also available very interesting models that would have a chance in Russia. Secondly, most of the cars are more than repulsed by low fuel consumption, which is very important in Germany, where a liter of gasoline costs 1.2-1.5 euros. And in the list of the most affordable cars in Germany there are as many as two Russian models. Do not believe me? Then be sure to read this article until the very end!
Opens the top ten cheapest new cars in Germany compact car Skoda Citigo. You can buy this car in Germany for a little less than 10 000 euro. For this money, the buyer will receive a three-door car with a six-liter 60-horsepower engine, ABS + ESP, two airbags, a height-adjustable steering column and other options. However, almost exactly the same car as the Skoda Citigo in Germany can be bought and cheaper. What is it about? You will find out below.
Japanese cars in Germany – it’s rather an exotic, which only loyal fans choose. True, to the compact Suzuki Celerio it does not apply, and it, as well as its predecessors Splash and Alto, can be found on the roads of Germany. Germans, the ultra-compact Japanese convinces primarily the volume of the trunk of 1053 liters (with folded seats), as well as low fuel consumption of a 68-horsepower engine – 4.3 liters / 100 km in a mixed cycle. And it does not matter that the basic equipment Celerio does not even have a radio. If a German wants to save money, then he probably will not even pay attention to such trifles.
Starting from 2015, Opel brand plays in the market of “budget” cars with its compact model Karl. Of course, we can not say that in standard equipment Opel Karl offers something absolutely inaccessible to its class. But unlike other similar models in more advanced versions Karl has quite interesting options – for example, a steering wheel with heating, climate control and a panoramic roof. True, such a car is already much more expensive.
In the list of the cheapest new cars in Germany, there are no German brands. But the “French” is. For example, compact Citroen C1 is offered at a price of 9090 euros. In motion, this car is powered by a liter 68-horsepower engine, consuming in the urban cycle only 5 liters of fuel per 100 km. The equipment of the Citroen C1 is rather modest, although there are two airbags and the ABS + ESP system. That is, approximately all the same as that of competitors. But there is a Citroen C1 and one important advantage – an attractive appearance, than in this price category can boast of not every car.
Most models of the Romanian brand Dacia are sold in Russia under the brand Renault. One of the few exceptions is Dokker’s “heel”. You can buy a utility car for the ridiculous by European standards 8990 euros. In motion, the Dokker is powered by a 102-horsepower engine, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, and consumes about 6.2 liters of fuel per 100 km of track. The equipment is rather modest. But there are two airbags, ABS and ESP systems, and there is a brake power booster. And on the rest it is really possible to save. In the end, Dacia Dokker is the most natural “workhorse”.
The Spanish “brother” Skoda Citigo and Volkswagen Up! Costs a bit cheaper than the latter and is offered in Germany for about 9,000 euros. At the same time, there are no fundamental differences in the equipment of the three models. Just like the small Skoda and Volkswagen, the SEAT Mii is offered with a three-cylinder, 60 horsepower three-cylinder engine. And, since it is a car originally intended for daily trips around the city, it is not surprising that Germans prefer to buy the Mii, and not to overpay for belonging to the Czech or German brand.
Dacia Logan MCV
At first glance, the station wagon Dacia Logan MCV Russians completely unknown. But in reality in our country a car is being sold, which is the real “brother” of this model – it’s Lada Largus. True, Largus is a localized version of the first-generation Logan MCV. And Europe has long been selling a second generation wagon, which in Germany can be purchased for an amount of 7,990 euros. As standard, the car is equipped with a 0.9-liter 73-horsepower petrol engine, ABS + ESP, two airbags and … everything! For everything else, including air conditioning and a spare tire, you will have to pay extra. So not only in Russia manufacturers save to make the nominal price for the model as low as possible.
Russians have some reason for pride. In the top three most affordable cars in Germany, two places went to AvtoVAZ products. So, the third place is occupied by Lada Kalina, which stands in Germany from 7210 euros for the version of “hatchback”. However, the car in the body of the “station wagon” is not much more expensive – from 8010 euros. Thus, the Russian machine makes a serious competition to “state employees” in several classes at once. By the way, the guarantee for Lada Kalina in Germany is 5 years.
The second place in the list of the most affordable cars in Germany is occupied by another Russian car – Lada Granta. To get the most affordable version of the VAZ model, equipped with a 1.6-liter 87-horsepower engine and a 5-speed “mechanics”, it is possible for an amount of 7010 euros. Equipping the “base” “Grants” by German standards is very modest. Of the benefits here, there are only mandatory ABS + ESP systems, as well as two front airbags. In the same way as in the case of Kalina, German customers of Grants are granted 5-year warranties for the car. True, do not say that it somehow saves the situation. For example, in January 2017, only 56 new Grant were sold in Germany.
Well, the cheapest new car on the German market is the Dacia Sandero hatchback, which recently experienced facelift. For this money, the buyer will receive a car equipped with a liter 73-horsepower engine, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. In this case, of course, there is no need to wait for miracles: even in Germany the base Sandero is offered almost “naked”. Of the benefits there are only ABS and ESP systems prescribed by European law, and bumpers and mirrors are not even painted in body color. But unlike our country, this model is not only cheaper than Lada, but taking into account the current exchange rate, even less Sandero, sold in Russia. Why? This can only be guessed.
