At its core, Nissan Tsuru is the twin brother Sentra sedan. At the plant in Mexico, he appeared in 1984, and after two updates of the body virtually unchanged since the year 1992 up to the current time.
Under the hood it can be positioned as a relatively weak 1.4-liter engine with 87 horsepower and cheerful two-liter inline "four" with index SR20DE, whose power is 140 horsepower. With him Nissan Tsuru can accelerate to 100 km in 7 seconds. Impressive, is not it?
However, fast cars need good security, and unfortunately the Mexicans, the car could not boast of not only the high rigidity of the body, but also airbags. As a result, according to the Global NCAP, more than 4,000 people were killed in this car in the period from 2007 to 2012. A recent crash test Nissan Tsuru confirmed the fears of experts: the car is not able to protect its occupants from injury in a collision at a speed of 64 kilometers per hour with a barrier method for Latin NCAP.
It is worth noting that in Mexico are now in leadership positions is well known in the CIS model – Chevrolet Aveo, which in many markets is known as the Chevrolet Sonic. And if in Europe it is equipped with airbags, and performed well at the crash test with Euro NCAP, as described in the Latin NCAP model gaining zero balls out of five.
However, nothing surprising in Mexico does not apply any security standard and automakers are in no hurry to equip their cars in the base versions of airbags.
