How to save money on spare parts. We buy cheaper than official

As the car ages, it becomes more and more expensive to purchase original “consumables” and spare parts from an authorized dealer. Acquisition of the “original” on the side and analogues-substitutes significantly reduces the cost of maintaining the machine. But that did not happen, that the miser pays twice, the buyer will have to learn to understand the spare parts …

What is “original” and what is an analog

As soon as the buyer starts looking for consumables and spare parts on the side, where they cost a little less than official ones, he immediately gets into the world of scammers. The most innocuous version of deception, designed for a “novice” buyer – is the issuance of analogues-substitutes for the “original”.

On the site of a well-known seller of spare parts there is a section: “What we call original spare parts.” So, they refer to the “original” as parts of firms that are suppliers of their products to car assembly conveyors and to original spare parts.

For example, if there are ATE brake pads in the original packaging of the automaker, analogue pads in the ATU package are also considered “original” for them and sold at the appropriate price … Well, the gypsies from the forecourt market, gold-plated copper is also called gold, but it is not gold from it Becomes …

Many will ask: what is the difference? The difference is that for deliveries to original spare parts, components are often manufactured according to a special specification agreed with the car manufacturer. The task for the supplier is as follows: in the free market you can sell any parts on your behalf, but for us we will make them according to the requirements that we set. At the same time, a contract with an automaker often prohibits the supplier from selling parts in the “original” specification on his behalf …

Therefore, for example, brake pads of the same company, supplied in original spare parts and sold in their “native” packaging, can be completely different composition of the friction layer.

This does not mean that the analogue is always worse than the original – sometimes it’s the other way around. For example, eminent manufacturers of components of brake systems consider not the best of their products parts delivered on conveyors and in original spare parts. Because, at the conclusion of large contracts, automakers are strongly “bending” them at a price, forcing them to seek a compromise in quality.

When a spare parts manufacturer sells them on its own behalf, the quality is already the face of the firm. For example, many have faced the fact that in some models of cars the brakes are prone to overheating, resulting in warping of the brake discs. Saddened a couple of times “in the floor,” and the third on the body went machine-gun vibrations … Then you kick out the standard pads with discs, you install standard (not sports, not reinforced) analogs from the famous brake system manufacturer, and the problem goes …

But, however that may be, remember the main thing: the original parts are only those parts that are made by the automaker himself or under his control, and are sold in his package, with his catalog number. All the rest are analogues-substitutes, even if they are produced by the same firms that supply their products to the “original”. If the analogue does not belong to a special product line – for example, sports or reinforced, it should always cost CHEAPER “original”. Moreover, it is much cheaper …

The only exception is domestic cars, for which analogues from well-known Western manufacturers are more expensive than the Russian “original”.

Analogues are not always more profitable

A guarantee that this part will not harm your car is provided only by original spare parts. In fact, these are the same details from which the machine was assembled at the factory. And if the automaker makes some changes in the design or technology (which happens very often), they automatically switch to the “original” with the assignment of a new catalog number and binding to VIN cars, for which the details of the new sample are relevant.

Producers of “neoriginala” are usually less scrupulous. The main thing for them is that the part should fit the dimensions (although this is not always strictly observed), and its performance may differ – sometimes quite significantly. For example, non-original brake pads can creak, squeak, pound on irregularities, wedge from dirt, quickly wear themselves or quickly “eat” the original brake discs.

In addition, the selection of the original spare parts on VIN excludes variability – you get a detail, in all respects, absolutely identical to the one that was originally installed. Manufacturers of the same “neoriginala” for one model and modification of the car often offer parts of different quality and with different performance characteristics. For example, the brake pads Ferodo “green” and “red” series – these are two big differences. Did you know about this?

It happens that the analogs differ from the “original” in the details. In some cases, it’s good. For example, the spherical bearings of the front suspension in the “original” are often supplied only with the levers, and the non-original ones are sold separately. If the ball wears out much earlier than silent blocks, it is more profitable to change them separately for 1,000 rubles. Per piece, rather than the levers in the collection of 6 000 rubles.

But it happens the other way around. For example, the protective anthers of the rear shock absorbers Ford Fusion over time cease to hold and slide down the rods, while they are supplied only assembled with the original shock absorbers. Therefore, when buying non-original shock absorbers it is necessary either to “collective-farm”, selecting suitable anthers of size, or to agree that without protection from dirt, new shock absorbers will not last long. As a result, the more expensive “original” is cheaper …

And in some cases the purchase of non-original parts – for example, the timing belt of the engine – is undesirable categorically. The difference with the “original” will be 500-1 000 rubles. And repair of the motor in case of a belt failure will pull by 50 000-100 000 rubles …

First, “study the question”

As you can see, there are a lot of nuances in the acquisition of the “original” on the side and analogues-substitutes. To save not overpayment, you need to know in which cases you should only use the “original”, and in which you can do an analog. In addition, you need to know the analogue of which firm and what series for your car you can use, and with which it is better not to mess with. And also – how to distinguish the genuine part from counterfeit, which in the independent market of spare parts is enough even among the “original”. Where to get this information?

You can call several unauthorized technical centers that specialize in this brand of cars. On their own experience, they have already found out in which cases and what “neoriginal” for your car can be used. But, firstly, they are reluctant to share their experience – they usually say: come, we have spare parts that are optimal in price and quality. And secondly, the interests of the service often do not coincide with the interests of the client.

For example, if the steering tips of mediocre quality are worth 1,000 rubles each. For a joke against 1,500 rubles. For a much better “unoriginal”, the service will offer exactly them, so as not to scare off customers at a high price. Well, the fact that the tips will serve 40 000-50 000 km instead of 60 000-80 000 km, for service it’s even better – the customer will once again pay for the tips, their replacement and the subsequent adjustment of the convergence / collapse …

Therefore, before each purchase, you will have to carefully “study the issue” by reading the forums and studying the manufacturers’ catalogs of “non-original”. Perhaps saving money will be compensated by loss of time and effort, but a mistake can be much more expensive. The next time we will talk about how dangerous counterfeit spare parts are, how large the counterfeit market in Russia is, and how to distinguish the genuine part from the forgery.
